Into Africa

We have been travelling virtually through Libya the past two weeks, passing through beautiful desert scenery, ancient Roman ruins at Leptis Magna, as well as modern Libyan ruins as in the attached picture. It’s not a good time to actually be travelling in Libya, as the Canadian government has warned:

Libya - AVOID ALL TRAVEL

Avoid all travel to Libya due to persistent insecurity throughout the country, including sustained armed conflict, a high risk of terrorist attacks, an unpredictable political situation and a high crime rate. Given the recent deterioration in the security situation near Tripoli, you should leave by commercial means as soon as it’s safe to do so.

If we ignored their warning, any medical emergencies that arose as we trekked through Libya would most likely be excluded by our travel insurance. Though there is coverage available for travellers in high risk areas, when a Government of Canada Travel Advisory warns you to avoid all nonessential travel to a specific country, check the exclusion section of your travel policy very carefully!

Here is a link to the government’s travel site: https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/advisories .There is useful and interesting information there… even if you are only making a virtual trip.
