On the Road Again

After completing our epic virtual Cross-Canada Trek in late December 2017, we are once more on the road. This year we are following the route of Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor on their “Long Way Down” trip in 2007. They travelled by motorcycle, but we are going to make the 24,000-kilometre trip from John o’Groats, Scotland to Cape Town, South Africa on foot, on skates, by bicycle, even by snow shovel! (A chart published by Purdue University assigns 145 steps per minute for shovelling snow.)

Using Fitbits, pedometers, and/or the Purdue chart, we total our very real steps each week and apply them to Google maps to see how far along the route we have travelled … virtually. From John o’Groats on January 15, we have travelled 2,500 kms so far, and have reached Lake Como in Italy.

We have some new virtual trekkers this year: Katie and Liz have joined Ken, Gina, Kyra, and Lindsay from the dentist’s office; and Tonya has joined Greg, Rick and I from RMFP. Cindi and Cynthia represent the legal offices again, and Chrissy is back, representing the refrigeration company. We are delighted to have two ad hoc trekkers with us: Pam is walking with us again, and Martin has joined us as well! Let us know if you would like to sign on for what's going to be a great trip!
